According to the Vermont Barn Census, there are 37 distinct types of outbuildings—including 13 distinct types of barns—that were commonly built in Vermont throughout the state’s history.
Vermont is famous for its barns! We love our barns! We couldn’t live without our barns! We get it. Outbuildings are in some cases—depending on who you ask—more important than the home itself! And in the era of work-from-home, that’s truer than ever. Our outbuildings have transformed from the utility sheds of yore—fit for the lawn-mower and not much else—into the workplaces of the future, ADUs, art studios, and so much more.
A detached structure inspection is a great way to get to know your new outbuilding. And while you should always consult a structural engineer before renovating or reconfiguring any outbuilding (or any building for that matter), a Detached Structure Inspection can give you a great idea of what you’re working with. All Detached Structure Inspections are accompanied by a detailed, high-quality written report similar to your Home Inspection report.
